Danny DeVito as Wolverine? Nothing is impossible in this world, especially when it comes to fans showing their support for any lofty idea in the world of genre cinema. Fan petitions exist for all sorts of reasons, from requesting that The Last Jedi be removed from official Star Wars canon, to remaking the final season of Game of Thrones.

Despite what you may think of them, none have been so righteous as the request for beloved actor Danny DeVito to portray fan-favourite X-Men Mutant Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, that wonderful scenario has edged ever closer to reality as the petition has now reached a whopping fifty thousand signatures.

The petiton's author, Ring Arius, strongly believes that Danny DeVito is the only man in existence worthy to take on the mantle.

"The only man able to take the throne after Hugh Jackman. We believe that if Wolverine is to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the only man able to pull it off is Danny DeVito."

Arius, unconvinced that people will simply blindly follow him despite being so unequivocally correct, has justified his reasons for the X-Men casting call, beginning with the actor's physical qualifications.

"Danny DeVito's height is a lot closer to the comic books portrayal of Wolverine. With Danny being 4'10" and Wolverine 5'3"."

There was much criticism over the casting of Hugh Jackman initially with the actor being over 6 feet tall, and no doubt there was a petition at the time to sack him from the role due to this. Arius goes on to cite DeVito's previous roles, namely his It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia character Frank's wrestling alter ego.

"Secondly, we all saw Danny's portrayal of the Trashman. So, we know he is fully capable of fighting, and that he is not afraid when things get dirty!"

Whatever you may think, the man makes a very compelling argument, and it has clearly spoken to other fans as the top comment could not be more in support of the suggestion.

"It's f---ing Danny DeVito, enough said."

With Hugh Jackman having stepped down from the Wolverine role after 2017's Logan, and with the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige confirming the the X-Men will be folded into the MCU in the near future, Wolverine will need to be recast eventually, and it is highly doubtful that you can muster up a name better than Danny DeVito to wear the spiky hairdo.
