300 spinoff previously known as Xerxes has now been retitled 300: Battle of Artemisia. Warner Bros. is narrowing down the director to either Noam Murro or Jaume Collet-Serra.

Zack Snyder was going to direct the spinoff, but signed on to direct Man of Steel instead. Zack Snyder had written a script with his 300 cohort Kurt Johnstad.

The film will be based on the Frank Miller graphic novel and will be shot with the same stylized period green-screen action visuals as 300.

300: Battle of Artemisia begins about 10 years before the events of 300.
