Yesterday on Facebook, Vin Diesel teased the first trailer for his long-awaited sequel XXX: The Return of Xander Cage. Always true to his word, the actor has now posted this sneak peek, which gives us our first look at some of the explosive action set pieces this sequel has to offer. We also get to see the long-awaited reunion of Vin Diesel's Xander Cage and Samuel L. Jackson's Augustus Gibbons from the original xXx, which hit theaters back in 2002.

Vin Diesel's first xXx was a box office hit, taking in $142.1 million domestic and $277.4 million worldwide from a $70 million budget. Despite the initial movie's success, Vin Diesel did not return for the sequel XXX: State of the Union, which starred Ice Cube as Augustus Gibbons' new recruit, Darius Stone. That sequel didn't fare quite as well at the box office, taking in just $26.8 million domestically and $71 million worldwide. Now more than a decade later, Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson are back with a brand new cast for xXx 3.

The third explosive chapter of the blockbuster franchise that redefined the spy thriller finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora's Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments. Packed with the series' signature deadpan wit and bad-ass attitude, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage aims to raise the bar on extreme action with some of the most mind-blowing stunts to ever be caught on film.

Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson will be joined by a supporting cast that includes Deepika Padukone, Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose, Donnie Yen and Conor McGregor. D.J. Caruso (I Am Number Four) is directing xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, from a script by Chad St. John (London Has Fallen) with current revisions by F. Scott Frazier (Collide). Paramount Pictures has set a January 20, 2017 release date for XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, which is shaping up to be quite the competitive weekend early next year.

The action sequel will be facing The Weinstein Company's The Founder, which opens wide on January 20, 2017 after an Oscar-qualifying run this December, and Universal's horror-thriller Split, starring James McAvoy. There are also four high-profile movies opening one week prior on January 13. 20th Century Fox will debut Hidden Figures, with Paramount's Friday the 13th, Warner Bros.' Live By Night and Paramount's Monster Trucks also opening on that date. Take a look at the first trailer for xXX: The Return of Xander Cage below.
