New Line Cinema has brought on Dan Trachtenberg to direct the languishing Y: The Last Man adapation. We reported in September that the project had become a priority at the studio, after receiving a well-liked script from Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia.

The story, based on Brian K. Vaughan's comic book series, follows Yorick Brown, a young man who, along with his pet monkey, somehow become the only two male mammals on Earth, after a bizarre, cataclysmic event wipes out every other male on the planet, both human and animal. Yorick teams with a government operative known only as 355, to try and get to the bottom of this world-changing event.

David S. Goyer, Chris Bender, and J.C. Spink are producing for New Line and Benderspink. The project has been in development for years, with filmmakers such as D.J. Caruso and Louis Leterrier previously attached to direct.

Dan Trachtenberg is best known for directing the short Portal: No Escape, based on the popular Portal video game. No production schedule was given for Y: The Last Man.
