Yellowjackets isn’t done telling its story just yet. The thriller drama series left fans with more questions than answers. The second season only consisted of 9 episodes, unlike its first season which has 10. The final episode was built up with a cascading set of events, which eventually led fans to firmly believe that there will be an extra episode to follow.

EW reported that the fans' belief was fueled the highly intense cliffhanger of the season finale where teen Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) emerged as the primary contender for the Antler Queen title, while adult Misty (Christina Ricci) unintentionally caused the death of adult Natalie (Juliette Lewis). The episode also witnessed the team’s cabin going up in flames, leaving them without shelter.

While there have been plenty of shows that have left fans wanting more, recently more and more shows have been delivering that little bit extra to what was originally announced. Last year, Netflix's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman delivered an unexpected additional episode that did do anything to resolve the season one cliffhanger but did provide just that little bit more for fans to enjoy.

The show has amassed a rabid following that was abuzz with anticipation for the supposed bonus episode. They even took it to Twitter that they are planning to stay up until the release of this much awaited hour-long extra.

This was when the Yellowjackets’ co-creator, Ashley Lyle, responded back to dispel rumors and to urge the show’s fandom to go get some rest. Lyle confirmed that there is indeed a bonus episode and it’s in the works. However, she clarified that it would not be dropping anytime soon like the fans are expecting.

Though the bonus episode is confirmed to be underway, the details about it remain scanty. The timing of its release is unknown, as well as the impact that it will leave on the forthcoming third season. This uncertainty is partly due to writers’ strike that saw the writing team being able to contribute to the third season only a day.

Regardless of these unknowns, Yellowjackets fans can expect this upcoming episode to maintain the same signature dark tone of the show, while featuring captivating musical moments, all leading to thriller show that will keep them on their toes.

Yellowjackets premiered November 14, 2021, on Showtime. The psychological horror series showcases the narrative of a team of talented high-school girls soccer players that was able to survive a plane crash in the wilderness of Ontario. It chronicles the downward spiral they found themselves in from a thriving team to becoming cannibalistic and savage clans and how they are trying to put their lives back together piece by piece 25 years after the crash. Although not based on a true story, the series was inspired by 2 real events – the Donner Party and the 1972 Andes Flight Disaster.
