Yellowjackets was one of the big surprises of 2021. The Showtime drama quickly conquered the audience with its dark and disturbing story, mainly thanks to its incredible protagonists and the excellent development of the characters, played by different actors and actresses in one story that jumps back and forth in time.

Thanks to its good reception and critical acclaim, the show was renewed for a second installment that arrives this month on the network. However, many wonder if the continuation will surprise the viewers as the previous one did and live up to the first batch of episodes.

Thankfully, it looks like fans can be at peace and look forward to the new episodes, which debuted on Rotten Tomatoes to no less than 100% critical acceptance—a very good omen for the future of the series.

This is undoubtedly good news, considering that the series creators have expressed that in their heads, the show should last about five seasons to tell the whole story that they have imagined. If Yellowjackets continues down this path, there's no doubt that it will get long enough to conclude as planned.

Yellowjackets follows a tremendously talented team of high school soccer players who become the unfortunate survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern desert. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated team into savage clans while tracing the lives they tried to rebuild nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never truly the past and that what began in the wilderness is not over.

In Season 2, the Yellowjackets barely made it through summer, but now as winter begins to bite, we'll see if hunger and desperation turn into full-on psychosis. Meanwhile, 25 years later, each survivor must determine if the darkness is coming for them or from them.

The series stars Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey, and Tawny Cypress, along with Ella Purnell (Sweetbitter), Samantha Hanratty (Shameless), Sophie Thatcher (Prospect), Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief), Steven Krueger (The Originals), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream 6), and Warren Kole (Shades of Blue).

Joining this season are Simone Kessell as an adult Lottie and Elijah Wood as a new character named Walter. In addition to them, Lauren Ambrose will play the adult version of Van, with Nicole Maines as Lisa, Francois Arnaud as Paul, and Nia Sondaya as the teenage Akilah.
