Spoiler Warning: Yellowjackets Season 1

The second season of Showtime’s Yellowjackets can’t come soon enough! After the first season's debut, viewers and critics alike were sent into a frenzy about everything that was going on with this drama-horror series. There have been countless fan theories and Reddit threads about each character and their storylines and many predictions about what would happen in the next episode. After the season finale that aired earlier this year, old theories were either answered or scrapped, with new ones being added about what will happen now in the second season with the characters and story.

The first season of Yellowjackets is about a group of high school girls in a soccer team named Yellowjackets who are flying to the championships when suddenly their plane crashes in the middle of nowhere. The soccer team has to figure out how to survive the wilderness while awaiting rescue for nineteen months. The series flashes between the high schoolers in the wilderness in 1996 to some survivors as adults in 2021 as they navigate their lives.

While there are some aspects of Yellowjackets that we do know or are confirmed, we still don't clearly know what season two will entail. But here is what we hope to see based on how season one ended as well as the fan theories that showrunners/creator Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson confirmed would be incorporated into season two. There are a lot of questions we want answered for season two, but these are the major ones that had fans talking for weeks after the finale.

What We Hope to See in the Wilderness, 1996

One of the most talked-about scenes in the icy finale of Yellowjackets was Jackie being frozen to death. After arguing with Shauna because she was pregnant from Jackie’s boyfriend, she feels isolated and decides to sleep outside, only never to wake up since it snowed. It was the most shocking and heartbreaking scene to happen, especially since she was a main character in the series. However, we never saw her in the year 2021, so there was a prediction that something could have happened to Jackie, but viewers didn’t know. Viewers felt the regret and shame through Shauna since their last interaction was a major fight, and Jackie died with that anger and frustration.

What we hope to see for season two is will Jackie still come back? The showrunners have already confirmed in an interview with Vanity Fair that Jackie is, in fact, dead. She wouldn’t return incarnated or as a ghost. As Lyle said to The Hollywood Reporter, “Jackie is a character who looms large over everyone else’s lives.”

Another big mystery that we hope to see in season two is Lottie’s supernatural instincts. Throughout the season, viewers began seeing Lottie experience visions once she runs out of her medication for schizophrenia. Toward the finale, it seems Lottie has embraced her abilities, such as being able to calmly kill a bear for everyone to eat. One of the Yellowjackets, Van, begins to believe in Lottie’s abilities. Toward the end of the episode, Lottie is shown holding the bear's heart as a sacrifice to the wilderness, with Van and Misty kneeling beside her.

While not confirmed on-screen, it's highly speculated that Lottie is the Antler Queen. What we hope to see is how did she become the leader? Is it because of her supernatural abilities that keep coming true that the rest of the Yellowjackets follow in her lead to continue surviving?

In the present time, Natalie, Misty, Taissa, and Shauna throughout the season are the only confirmed survivors from the wilderness besides Travis. Unfortunately for him, he was found dead by suicide when Misty and Natalie searched for him, with Natalie not believing he would kill himself. However, after searching for answers and coming up empty other than the mystery of Travis’ bank account being drained after his death, Natalie decides she also wants to commit suicide. But before she ends her life, a mysterious group dressed in all grey wearing a necklace with a specific symbol breaks into her hotel room and kidnaps Natalie. She is left with a voicemail from a bank teller who looked into Travis’ drained bank account, asking, “Who the f–k is Lottie?”

The season ends with another confirmed survivor and viewers asking, is Lottie running a cult? Did she continue to mirror being the Antler Queen after they survived? The showrunners did confirm that in season two of Yellowjackets, we will see an adult Lottie.

Another big mystery we hope to see in the next season of Yellowjackets is what is going on with Taissa? She’s running for state senator, and her campaign has been hit with multiple road bumps from her opposing mate calling her a cannibal to her son acting out and her wife, Simone, upset at her parenting. In the end, Taissa ends up winning the senate race. At the same time, Simone climbs through a cell in their basement and finds their decapitated dogs head, their son’s doll that went missing, and a human heart with the same symbol also written in blood, leading viewers to wonder if Taissa used these objects for a sacrifice to win the senate race.

Another theory goes back to Taissa in the wilderness. She would act animalistic and eat dirt, something that present-day Taissa began noticing but never remembering. Did Taissa knowingly commit this sacrifice, or is there something in her causing her to do these acts?

Viewers of Yellowjackets still want to know what happens to Shauna’s baby. She was pregnant before the plane crashed, and since they had been in the wilderness for nineteen months, she had to have the baby there. There are no signs of it in the present, so what happens to it? Viewers also want to know what happened to Javi, the youngest survivor and Travis’s brother. After they all accidentally took hallucinogenic mushrooms, he ran off but was never found in the finale. Will he ever be recovered? And finally, the biggest mystery we hope to see next season is will cannibalism be incorporated? It was never confirmed or denied in the first season, so maybe now it'll be addressed in the next.

We hope to see these and many more questions answered when season two of Yellowjackets premieres later this year on Showtime.
