The disturbingly endearing Joe Goldberg is back, and this time, he has a beard. A new image from You Season 4 reveals the return of Penn Badgley as stalker and serial killer Joe, who has decided to change his appearance this time around, growing an impressive beard that should assist him in hiding from the authorities alongside his trusty baseball cap. You can check out the image from You Season 4 below, which comes to us courtesy of Netflix (via DiscussingFilm).

Produced by Warner Horizon Television, in association with Alloy Entertainment and A&E Studios, the first season of You is based on the 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes, and follows Penn Badgely as Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager in New York, who falls in love with an aspiring writer. What begins as an immature crush quickly escalates into toxic infatuation as Joe reveals himself to be a serial killer with an affinity for extreme obsession.

The second season of You sees a change of scenery in both the show and its availability, moving from Lifetime to Netflix as a Netflix Original series. Where the show has remained ever since. Season 2 sees Joe move to Los Angeles, changing his name and perhaps even his ways. Unfortunately, his best efforts do not last long, with Joe falling into old habits after falling in love with avid chef Love Quinn.

The latest season of You finds Joe struggling as a husband and father and living in a suburban Californian town. Of course, obsession and murder are never too far away, with the third season ending with Joe escaping to Paris in search of his latest love, Marienne.

Penn Badgely Has Teased a Change of Pace for You Season 4

You has become rather adept at reinventing itself with each new season. Thanks to changes in setting, characters, and Joe’s social and familiar situation, You has managed to remain fresh – something that Penn Badgely believes season 4 does better than ever.

"I think the thing that would make Joe most miserable is not... If he was tortured and killed by a woman, he would, in his mind, almost be vindicated,” the actor said of Joe Goldberg’s return. “He'd be like, 'I am the most persecuted man in all of history and I can be a martyr for love.' That is kind of what he would think in his mind. And Beck even says this in the first season - she says all that. And it's why people repeatedly do not call the cops on him, as sort of absurd as that might be at times. But it's true. And so I think for the next season, my conversations with Sera are really, I think, the most exciting so far because I think we're really going to get into that. And the next season could be quite different. It really could be quite different."

You co-creator Sera Gamble will return as showrunner for the fourth season, which stars Penn Badgley, Tati Gabrielle, Lukas Gage, Charlotte Ritchie, Tilly Keeper, Amy-Leigh Hickman and Ed Speleers.

The first three seasons of You are available to stream on Netflix now. You Season 4 has not yet been given a release date, but is expected to debut early next year.
