Actor Penn Badgley has revealed further insight into the continuing adventures of stalker and serial killer Joe Goldberg in the upcoming fourth season of You. The series will find Joe now living in London, with Badgley claiming that the killer will be far too focused on academia and professionalism to stalk and murder people. We'll see how long that lasts...

"Living in London has allowed me to bury the past, if you will. Gone are the days of unrequited love and longing. This time around I'm focusing on academia and instruction while keeping my typical extracurricular activities strictly professional."

Speaking with EW, Badgley’s words describe a Joe Goldberg who has seemingly left his so-called “extracurricular activities” behind him. Of course, this would not be the first time the character has tried to curb his criminal desires, and it has never lasted longer than one episode. For what it’s worth, Badgley believes that all Joe really needs is love, saying “I would hug him… I would hold him." Not that he thinks he really deserves it.

"I really, at this point, and I think I've been clear about how much I detest all of his deeds, so, in that context, I would actually try to love him. Because, the truth is, he's never gotten that. So I would ask Joe… I, honestly, feel like I would look at him for a long time."

Produced by Warner Horizon Television, in association with Alloy Entertainment and A&E Studios, the first season of You is based on the 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes, and follows Penn Badgely as Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager in New York, who falls in love with an aspiring writer. What begins as an immature crush quickly escalates into toxic infatuation as Joe reveals himself to be a serial killer with an affinity for extreme obsession.

Following all manner of brutal and bloody violence, You Season 3 saw Joe’s life as a father and husband come to a typically savage end. Thus, You Season 4 will take things over the pond to London, finding Joe now living as Professor Jonathan Moore.
