Ever since we reported in November that original X-Men stars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are returning as Professor X and Magneto in X-Men: Days of Future Past, fans have been wondering if they will actually encounter the younger versions of their characters, played by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.

According to James McAvoy, the younger and older Xavier's will never meet.

"It'll be cool, but I don't think we get any scenes together, sadly. I don't think there's any future self talking to past self."

While we definitely know there is a time travel element in X-Men: Days of Future Past, it isn't ultimately clear how the older Xavier and Magneto figure into the story.

Bryan Singer is directing from a screenplay by Simon Kinberg, based on Chris Claremont and John Byrne's comic book arc that centers on an alternate future where mutants are hunted down by Sentinels.
