Spin-offs of popular TV shows can sometimes be successful, like Frazier or The Jeffersons, but most times they fail miserably, canceled before the first season is even halfway over. It's tough to tell how the first and only Big Bang Theory spin-off will fare. But it sounds promising. It will center on a nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper, and today, we have the first images of star Iain Armitage taking over the role personified in his adult years by the Emmy Award-winning Jim Parsons.

The highly anticipated Young Sheldon will follow the 9-year-old genius Sheldon Cooper as he grows up in East Texas within his family of Christian normalcy.

For 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage), it isn't easy growing up in East Texas. Being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn't always helpful in a land where church and football are king. And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naïve Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him. The Big Bang Theory's multiple Emmy Award winner Jim Parsons narrates as Adult Sheldon.

This single-camera, half-hour comedy gives us the chance to meet Sheldon in childhood, as he embarks on his innocent, awkward and hopeful journey toward the man he will become. Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro created the series and executive produce along with Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak for Warner Bros. Television. Jon Favreau directed the pilot.

Young Sheldon stars Iain Armitage as Sheldon, Zoe Perry as Mary, Lance Barber as George Sr., Raegan Revord as Missy and Montana Jordan as Georgie Jr. The Big Bang Theory's multiple Emmy Award winner Jim Parsons narrates the comedy as Adult Sheldon.

Young Sheldon is one of a few new comedies coming to CBS, first introduced on Monday night. The coveted Monday slate will roll out in several phases this fall, with The Big Bang Theory once again opening the night while the Network broadcasts NFL Thursday Night Football. On Sept. 25, Young Sheldon will have a special Monday premiere at 8:30 PM following the season premiere of The Big Bang Theory, and then move to its regular Thursday time period on Nov. 2. Television's #1 new comedy Kevin Can Wait will open the season at 9:00 PM, providing a strong launch pad for the new comedy Me, Myself & I, starring Bobby Moynihan, at 9:30 PM. Scorpion, Monday's most watched scripted broadcast, returns at 10:00 PM to wrap up the night.

On Oct. 2, new family comedy 9JKL premieres at 8:30 PM, starring Mark Feuerstein, Linda Lavin and Elliott Gould, with The Big Bang Theory providing the best comedy lead-in on television. After NFL Thursday Night Football ends, The Big Bang Theory will move to its regular Thursday time period on Nov. 2. On Monday, Oct. 30, Kevin Can Wait will shift to 8:00 PM to open the night, followed by 9JKL. Then, Me, Myself & I will move to its regular 9:00 PM time period, followed by the return of Superior Donuts at 9:30 PM, starring Jermaine Fowler and Judd Hirsch.
