Since James Gunn announced that a new, younger Superman would be central to the rebooted DCU, fans have been speculating on who exactly could take over the role. While there is currently still a lot of unrest over the departure of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, once the new DCU finally arrives, fans may find that they end up liking the latest iteration of DC Comics’ finest. For now, though, there are yet to be any casting announcements and that means plenty of fans taking matters into their own hands. This includes one artist sharing David Corenswet as a perfect young Superman.

The first project for the new DCU will seemingly be the return of Superman to the big screen, and although the film will include a young version of the hero, it will not be an origin story. Essentially, we are looking at something similar to The Batman, which will find Clark Kent in his first years as Superman but will not delve into how he came to be Superman on Earth. In preparation of this, artist Javier Sanchez has shared what Corenswet could look like with an almost perfect representation of Superman’s comic book appearance.

Sanchez went on to also list four reasons why Corenswet would be a perfect choice to become the new Clark Kent. This included pointing out that he is a good but relatively unknown actor, which would take away any fan expectations that come with a big name. Sanchez also listed the actor’s height and build as being right for the character, his age, 29,meaning he could have a long run in the DCU, and finally the actor’s charm would make him an admirable Kent.

When it comes to the introduction of a new version of any popular character, the manner of the predecessor’s departure can make a big difference to how fan reactions go down. There has been a lot of ill-feeling over the loss of Henry Cavill, and that is something that James Gunn, Peter Safran and DC Studios will need to address before the movie arrives in the next few years. Previously James Gunn noted on his Twitter account that one thing that will not change based on fan reactions and opinions. He said:

“One of the things Peter & I were aware of when we took the job as heads of DC Studios was a certain minority of people online that could be, well, uproarious & unkind, to say the least. Our choices for the DCU are based upon what we believe is best for the story & best for the DC characters who have been around for nearly 85 years. Perhaps these choices are great, perhaps not, but they are made with sincere hearts & integrity & always with the story in mind. No one loves to be harassed or called names – but, to be frank, we’ve been through significantly worse. Disrespectful outcry will never, ever affect our actions.”
