Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski, who appeared in Robin Thicke's sultry "Blurred Lines" music video, have signed on to star in We Are Your Friends, which marks the directorial debut of Catfish: The TV Show star Max Joseph.

The story centers on Cole, a 23-year-old electronic dance music DJ who is working on what he believes is the next big revolutionary song. He meets an older, charismatic DJ who takes Cole under his wing, although their relationship gets complicated when Cole falls for his new mentor's younger girlfriend. While no details were given for Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski's characters, it seems likely that Zac Efron is playing Cole, while Emily Ratajkowski will portray the girlfriend.

Jonny Weston, Shiloh Fernandez and Alex Shaffer are also in negotiations for unspecified supporting roles alongside Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski.

Max Joseph is directing from a script he co-wrote with Meaghan Oppenheimer, based on a story created by Richard Silverman, who serves as executive producer. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing through their Working Title Films company, with StudioCanal providing the financing. Production is scheduled to begin August 18 in the San Fernando Valley.

Zac Efron most recently starred in That Awkward Moment and Neighbors, and he will next be seen in The Associate. Emily Ratajkowski stars in the upcoming Warner bros. projects Gone Girl and Entourage.
