Zac Efron has joined the cast of the upcoming Richard Linklater drama Me and Orson Welles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be based on Robert Kaplow's coming-of-age novel.
The story takes place in 1937, when a young high school student stumbles on the not-yet-open Mercury theater. He befriends its founder Orson Welles and lands a part in Julius Caesar. The production catapults Welles to star status, while the high school student learns about love and life in the process.
Christian McKay is set to play Welles while Ben Chaplin will play English film and stage actor George Coulouris. The film is set to start production in Mid-March in and around the New York City area.
