Zach Galifianakis may be joining an adaptation of John Kennedy Toole's Pulitzer Prize winning novel A Confederacy of Dunces.

The actor will play Ignatius J. Reilly, a self proclaimed genius in his mid-thirties that lives at home. The film follows the character as he sets out to find a job in the New Orleans French Quarter. The Muppets director James Bobin is in talks to direct, with Phil Johnston writing the script. Scott Rudin is producing for Paramount Pictures.

Over the years, other actors such as John Belushi, John Candy, Chris Farley, and Will Ferrell were considered to play Ignatius.
