DC co-bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran have been working hard to rehabilitate the DC Universe. Fans have been anticipating the massive changes on the franchise and they are excited for it. Following the release of Zachary Levi's Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the films The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will also be released this year. DC’s 2023 roster of films are crucial as they will define DC's cinematic future

DC’s slate aims to introduce a new universe. And now that the DC bosses have closed their doors on Henry Cavill’s Superman and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3, there is no guarantee for each project. It is unclear whether Zachary Levi and the rest of the Shazam! ensemble cast will be able to continue playing their roles.

After Zachary Levi booked the role of Shazam! in 2017, the actor had to bulk up for the role. It’s a shame as it might be deemed pointless since nothing is guaranteed in the DC, the actor isn't sure what the future holds for the Shazam franchise. But he trusts that DC is in good hands and he will try his best to portray his role. He tells THR,

“My responsibility is just to show up and be the best Shazam that I can be, and I take that very seriously. I've known Peter for years, and James even longer, and I think they’re going to be really great leaders. I think James is a very talented visionary person and so I’m looking forward to whatever that holds.”

Although nothing is definite, the actor hopes to continue playing as Shazam!

“I’m very happy with this movie. I hope it’s not my last.”

Shazam! co-writer Henry Gayden reveals he and co-writer Chris Morgan think that James Gunn’s plans for the DC is impressive, but Gayden admitted that they are also not sure if these plans will include Shazam! All he knows is that the sequel’s performance at the box office will heavily influence the decision of the DC bosses.

“We both think the plans are dope. As far as Shazam moving forward, they’ve said that, if this movie does well, then we can continue in their universe. So it’s really kind of contingent on this weekend, and the next weekend and the weekend after that.”

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated for release by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on March 17, 2023.
