The cast of Zack Snyder's next movie, Rebel Moon, is quickly taking shape. It was previously revealed that Sofia Boutella would be leading the cast of the sci-fi adventure movie and now the ensemble continues to grow with the addition of four new names. Per The Hollywood Reporter, joining the project in featured roles are Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Bae Doona, and Djimon Hounsou. Also coming into the cast are Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, and Sky Yang.

Snyder directs and co-wrote the screenplay with Army of the Dead co-writer Shay Hatten and 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad. Snyder and Johnstad are also credited for the story. Rebel Moon tells the story of "a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Belisarius. Desperate, the colonists dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand."

No details about Hunnam's character were revealed. Reportedly, Hounsou will play a character named General Titus, though it's not known if he's going to be a friend or foe of the protagonist. Bae will play a nemesis described as "proficient with a sword" while Fisher plays a resistance fighter named Blood Axe. This project also reunites Fisher with Snyder after the two worked together on Justice League before Joss Whedon infamously took over as director.

Snyder will produce Rebel Moon with his wife and producing partner, Deborah Snyder, along with Wesley Coller through the trio's The Stone Quarry banner. Eric Newman of Grand Electric will also produce. Bergen Swanson and Sarah Bowen of Grand Electric are executive producing with Hatten and Johnstad.

Zack Snyder's Been Waiting to Make a Sci-Fi Adventure

Zack Snyder's Next Movie Is Netflix Sci-Fi Adventure Rebel Moon

"This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan," Snyder said when the project was first announced, teasing the start of a new franchise. "It's my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out... I've spent the last two or three years building out this universe. Every corner has to be painted in. I've been doing designs, constantly drawing and really cultivating its fertile ground to make this world fully realized."

Rebel Moon is scheduled to start shooting in April with plans to wrap up by November of this year. At this time, the plan is for the story to be told in two parts, which is a reason for the lengthy production. A release date hasn't yet been set, but the film will be heading to Netflix.
