Netflix has been known to throw some serious money behind projects they believe is going to add to their subscriber numbers, and it seems that Zack Snyder could be their man of the moment. A new report has suggested that the director’s Rebel Moon has already had a sequel green lit before the first film is even complete. This would be the second time Netflix have put their faith in Snyder following his Army of the Dead franchise, which has already had the prequel Army of Thieves and has a number of spin-offs in development.

Rebel Moon started off life as a potential Star Wars pitch that was rejected by Lucasfilm a number of years ago. After reworking it into an original pitch, Netflix jumped on board to finance the Justice League director’s sci-fi vision, which is likely to spawn a whole new franchise for Snyder to concentrate on over the coming years. It was reported earlier in the year that the scale and scope of Rebel Moon was so large that there was a possibility the film would be split into two separate movies. While there has been no official word that this is happening, a new report from Deadline detailing 18 new movies that will be receiving tax credits to film in California includes Rebel Moon Part 2, which will received $16 million in credits for a spend of $83 million in the state during its production. While it is not a confirmation that Rebel Moon will be coming in two parts, it is as good a sign as any.

Rebel Moon Is Likely To Film Both Parts Back-To-Back

Zack Snyder began filming Rebel Moon four months ago, and there have been very few production updates in that time. While the movie has a huge scope, it is possibly that Snyder is already filming Part 2 of the movie as it has been suggested a number of times that the film would be split into two movies, and would be shooting both parts back-to-back. Obviously this is a risky strategy given the way Netflix’s spending has been of late, but given Snyder’s track record with Army of the Dead and the interest in what is essentially his “Star Wars, Netflix will feel like they are backing a winner with Rebel Moon.

The news comes as both good and bad news for fans on a number of fronts. If Snyder is shooting both movies over the next several months, that could mean that there will be a longer wait for the first movie to premiere on Netflix. In turn though, it would also mean that there would probably only be a short wait for the second part to follow, similar to the release of Army of Thieves in relation to Army of the Dead.

It already sounds as though Snyder is going to be throwing everything he has at Rebel Moon, which Netflix will be hoping to work in their favor as they don’t appear to be holding back in giving the director a mega-budget to work with in order to bring his vision to life, and will be looking for a similarly huge return for their money when the movies are released.
