Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is open to returning to the land of the undead for Zombieland 3. In an interview with DiscussingFilm, the filmmaker, who helmed both 2009’s Zombieland and its 2019 sequel Zombieland: Double Tap, responded eagerly to the idea of a third outing, believing that it would be best to pick up with the characters in another ten years, similarly to the most recent installment.

"Yeah, I’d do it tomorrow! We joked that it should be every 10 years because the second movie was 10 years, almost to the day, from the first. I like the notion that maybe in 2029, we’ll get to go back to that world with those people who would certainly be fun to see. You know, what are they up to with that much time passed? Emma [Stone] was the one who actually suggested doing one of these every 10 years. She made the joke that we can literally do it forever because Woody [Harrelson] is gonna outlive us all. Because he’s vegan, he’ll be around longer than any of us (laughs). So as long as there’s a desire for it and the cast is up for it, I mean, it’s the greatest experience of my career. I’d be thrilled to reunite with those guys.”

Thanks to beloved actor Woody Harrelson’s alleged immortality, Fleischer and star Emma Stone feel that returning to Zombieland every decade until the end of time could feasibly work. So, though it may be a while before we’re sitting down to watch Zombieland 3, perhaps in some sort of virtual reality theater considering it will be 2029, there could be many more adventures to come.

Released in 2009, the first Zombieland follows Jesse Eisenberg's nervous and neurotic character Columbus, a college student who joins forces with three eccentric strangers to survive the zombie apocalypse and travel through the southwestern USA to a safe haven. The sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap, picks up with our zombie-slaying group now living in the White House before deciding to travel to Graceland in Memphis. Along the way, they encounter other post-apocalyptic warriors and a group of survivors who find refuge in a commune, with the scrappy fighters soon finding themselves in a relentless battle against smarter, faster, and seemingly indestructible zombies.

Led by a charming ensemble cast that includes Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone, the Zombieland franchise is no doubt something that audiences would love to revisit time and again.
