Tommy Lister says that Disney is in the process of developing the sequels Zootopia 2 and Zootopia 3. Disney ended up with one of their biggest hits of all time with the first installment back in 2016, but since then, we haven't really heard anything about a sequel, so learning that there are two in the works is a pretty big shock. In addition to being critically acclaimed and a box office success, the movie took home the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Since Zootopia was such a huge hit, many assumed that Disney would immediately start work on a sequel, but the news has been quiet on that front until now.

In a new interview, Tommy Lister, who played Finnick, Nick Wilde's buddy, revealed the big Zootopia 3 news. This is the first that we have heard of any possible franchise expansions happening on the big screen. However, Lister is involved with the franchise, so his word is as good as anybody's. He had this to say.

"I can tell you for sure I'm doing another Zootopia with Disney. We're doing three of them. (There were) three Madagascars. We're gonna replace that. We're the biggest film that Disney is producing. The last one was $240 million. This one I'm hearing will be $300 million. That's what they spent on the budget, not the advertising. But the movie made $2.6 billion, with merchandising and the box office."

Now that the cat just might be out of the bag, when can we expect to see these Zootopia sequels? Unless Disney has been working quietly on the project for the last few years, it's more than likely going to be a while before we see Zootopia 2. It takes a long time for the creative teams to get the animation ready to roll. With that being said, it will probably be a few years before we see the second installment.

Disney does have some release dates open for November of 2020 and 2021, but that seems like it could be too soon to see a possible Zootopia 2 and a Zootopia 3. For now, we'll just have to wait until Disney makes the announcement to see when production will start and to see who will be coming back on board to join in on the adventure. Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman would have to return, so we'll also keep an eye on what they say in the coming weeks.

Disney fans should be pretty excited that two more Zootopia movies could be on the way. It's actually pretty amazing that the studio didn't jump headfirst into making sequels right away since the movie was such a big success. But, it's also been quite a while in between Frozen movies too, which was even bigger than Zootopia. Whatever the case may be, fans of the first installment have finally gotten some good news about the franchise. The interview with Tommy Lister was first conducted by Blog Mickey.
