20th Century Fox is currently developing a reboot of the classic Zorro character entitled Zorro Reborn, which will be set in an apocalyptic wasteland and won't feature many of the traditional characteristics of Zorro.

In this version, Zorro will be driven by vengeance instead of justice, although specific story details weren't given. The setting is not location-specific, unlike the early 19th Century California setting of the last two Zorro movies, 1998's The Mask of Zorro, and the 2005 sequel The Legend of Zorro. Both of those previous movies starred Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Rpin Suwannath will make his directorial debut with Zorro Reborn, after a career working in pre-visualization on such movies as X-Men, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy are writing the screenplay. The duo also wrote the Dracula reboot Harker, which we /harker-heads-to-warner-bros/reported in February is being developed at Warner Bros.

Zorro Reborn is said to be in the very early stages of development, with a story that has shades of Sergio Leone Westerns and No Country for Old Men.
